MTN XtraByte

MTN XtraByte allows eligible customers borrow data on credit just as they would borrow airtime when they run out of data while browsing and pay back on their next recharge.

Who can use XtraByte?

MTN XtraByte will be available to active prepaid MTNN customers. Other eligibility criteria include: SIM must be prepaid

  • SIM must be registered
  • Customer's main account balance must be between N0 and N12
  • MTN's consideration of Customer's average monthly spend
  • Customer must have paid up any previous XtraByte request and the charges associated thereto.

How do You know if You can use XtraByte?

A customer can check if they are eligible for the XtraByte service by dialing *606# then selecting 1 to confirm their eligibility.

You can choose Your preferred data bundle.

Eligible subscribers have the choice to choose from 5 data bundles on the XtraByte service:

  • 20MB
  • 50MB
  • 150MB Daily
  • 150MB Weekly
  • 500MB


The XtraByte service charges 15% on borrowed data and subscribers can payback XtraByte data borrowed, by recharging their account and the amount of data borrowed is first deducted from the recharged amount and the remaining balance, if any, will then be loaded in your main account. For example if a customer owing N115 XtraByte carries out a recharge of N400, the N115 owed to XtraByte is 1st deducted from theN400 recharge, then N285 will be loaded into the customer’s main account.
